Mattias Bylund is chief risk officer for the Third Swedish National Pension Fund (AP3), one of five buffer funds in the Swedish pension system. The funds' capital is used to balance temporary deficits that may arise between contributions and disbursements. AP3 currently manages a portfolio of around $42 billion. Prior to becoming chief risk officer in March 2013, he was head of external management, managing the fund's external alpha portfolio, where most of AP3's hedge fund investments reside. Bylund made the fund's first investments in hedge funds in 2007. He has held various positions in risk, quant and portfolio management, having joined AP3 in 2002, after graduating from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm with an M.Sc. in engineering physics.
